He has a tough and manly personality, and is relatively serious compared to many of the quirky students in the Hero Course. He values loyalty and principles, cares deeply for his friends, and can’t leave someone in trouble alone. He is childhood friends with Mina Ashido and has had a close relationship with her since middle school.
In middle school, he lacked confidence and once gave up on his dream of becoming a hero. Inspired by Ashido‘s courage in standing up to Gigantomachia and encouraged by the words of pro hero Crimson Riot, he decided to move forward again and enrolled at U.A. High School. Originally black-haired, he dyed his hair red when entering high school as a symbol of his admiration for Crimson Riot and to break away from his weaker past self.
Though opposite in personality to Katsuki Bakugo, they respect each other, and the trio including Denki Kaminari shares energetic exchanges. He consistently stands as a shield in front of his friends, and his presence as emotional support is significant.

Quirk: Hardening
His body hardens, granting tremendous defensive power, but he can also use that hardness offensively. This quirk can become both the ultimate spear and the ultimate shield, and gets harder with determination. While similar to Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu‘s quirk, Tetsutetsu’s has “the properties of steel” whereas Kirishima’s is “hardening,” meaning his hardness has no upper limit—that’s his strength.

A hardened fist slammed into an opponent’s attack. Just a counter punch, but it looks cool when Kirishima does it.
・Red Riot Unbreakable
For about 30 seconds, he super-hardens his entire body through sheer willpower to withstand any attack. His unwavering determination to never fall becomes the ultimate defense.
